With the MacBook Air, Apple has created the world’s thinnest laptop–measuring an unprecedented 0.16-inches at its thinnest point (and 0.76 inches thick overall). Despite the its slender shell, the MacBook Air doesn’t skimp on the specifications. It includes a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display, full-size and backlit keyboard, and a built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing. The MacBook Air is powered by a custom-built 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved multitasking performance. And this model is loaded with a 64 GB solid-state drive, which has no moving parts for enhanced durability. Other features include 2 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi connectivity via 802.11a/b/g/n standards, a micro-DVI video output (with included adapters), and up to a 5-hour battery life.

It comes pre-loaded with Apple’s Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system, which adds over 300 new features including easy backup of your most important data via Time Machine, a redesigned desktop that helps eliminate clutter, and the newest version of the fast-loading Safari web browser. I have just returned from a trip of 3 days – Tours of my first experience with the MacBook Air. Making its first-generation MacBook Pro and honestly tried to first put together in case I need “yes”. “E ‘” mainly referred to the DVD, Ethernet, and perhaps superior hard drive speed / access time. I decided to go with the MacBook Air (and the USB Ethernet adapter) – and see what happens.

It is a large. First, the bag on my shoulder felt almost unreasonably light. Battery life was more than enough to support my three-hour flight with about 25% of capacity at the end. Internet connection at the airport (for the wi-fi) and hotel (USB-Ethernet adapter) is a breeze (note, however, I need a $ 29 USB adapter – Ethernet).

During the conference, furniture abound envy … rather surprising, actually. The reaction of those who have never given its size, strength and form factor is quite impressive.

I ichatted with my family without problems with a good quality video, the whole system felt a little ‘more sensitive to 2 years on my MacBook Pro with the first generation Core Duo chip.

If you want a light, slim and portable with a robust full-size keyboard, excellent screen, MacOS X (10.5), and you do not need a CD / DVD (you can buy an external, but carry around this extra piece about a little challenge ‘the objective of the Master), and can put up with not “optimal” performance of the hard disk, then the MBA is exactly what you want!
I want to buy the USB-Ethernet adapter, though.

If you need high-speed performance, FireWire, high-end graphics card, a package of DVD / CD-ROM, etc., the MBA is not for you – but suppose you would not look at this page …

Honestly, I could not be happier with my purchase. My MB Pro will soon be on eBay …

I used my MacBook Air today for 4 weeks and has made numerous trips. This allows me time to update some of the comments made previously.

- Battery life: I am very satisfied with battery life, which allows easy 3-4 hours of word processing, production and presentation of PowerPoint EndNote job. For me, it’s mainly for flights, which reduces the brightness of the LED screen to conserve power. I did not push my MBA to play videos. In fact, I do not have digital files on it, because these files can fill the (limited) space on your hard disk fast enough.

- Ports: USB is not enough! For example, if you need to connect to the Internet via a USB adapter (again, still indispensable!) You are blocking the only USB port – unless you carry a USB hub (Belkin has a nice 4-port a pivot design, but very expensive). Then I added a small USB hub for my travel tools.

- Design: The MBA still turns heads and sparks comments. In fact, one of my flights the same captain left the cockpit to take care of one of the flight attendants had said about the MBA on my lap …

- Heat: The MBA is much cooler than my MacBook Pro You can easily adjust the lap without feeling uncomfortable.

My wish list for future generations MBA:

- At least 2 USB ports. It should be easy to do.
- Review Ethernet – the USB adapter works fine, but blocks the USB port at this time.
- As soon as the large 1.8”discs (HD or SSD) are available, they will certainly find its place in the MBA to overcome some limitations of space.

- It may surprise some, but honestly, I do not see a great need for a battery swapable. I would leave, as it is to keep the form factor unbelievable.
